PART TIME CHANCEL CHOIR DIRECTOR

General Requirements: The selected candidate must be a mature Christian with a clear sense of calling to serve Christ by inviting and equipping people to use their God-given gifts to lead worship and to follow Jesus in transforming the world.

Overall Description: Clemson UMC believes in passionate worship in multiple formats. Currently we hold a traditional service, and a more informal early service. This position is for the traditional service which is held at 11 AM on Sunday. The Choir Director reports to the Senior Minister.

General Responsibilities:
1. Invite gifted and called vocalists, musicians and other artists to be a part of the traditional music service.
2. Utilize the gifts of worship team members to regularly provide passionate music in the traditional services that points people to Christ.

Specific Duties:

1. Lead the choir. Choose music, rehearse and conduct choir.
2. Develop regular special music ensembles. Choose music, rehearse and lead ensembles.
3. Supervise the Organist.
4. Meet with worship committee to identify music and worship arts components for the services.
5. Work with the Worship committee on special church wide worship events (Christmas and Easter events etc.)
6. Continually promote the choir activities in the church’s communication systems: highlighting ways for people to become involved and celebrating how Jesus is transforming them.
7. Recruit choir members from the congregation, youth, and Clemson University students.
8. Track participation in traditional worship arts (Access ACS).
9. These duties may expand as the music program and Clemson United Methodist Church grow.

Position Requirements:

1. Passion and demonstrated skills in choral music.
2. Vocal proficiency. Experience in conducting.
3. Ability to mobilize and equip volunteers and supervise staff.
4. Superior interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in building teams.
5. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and be organized, flexible and personable.
6. A self-starter and independent worker who is a team player.
7. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
