Outreach Ministry Highlight:
Clemson Community Care

Clemson Community Care was formed in 1988 by a group of local ministers in the community as an agency to coordinate and document services to people in need in our area. Clemson United Methodist was a leader in this through the work of Reverend Mickey Fisher. Since 1988, CUMC has continued to be a strong supporter of CCC with financial aid and also volunteer help. Many of our members give a morning a week to pack food bags, work with clients, do yard work, or pick up food donations. Others come in on an as needed basis anytime we call on them. Many others donate food or financial help.

Clemson Community Care serves the people of Central, Clemson and Pendleton on an emergency basis with food pantry help and financial assistance for utilities and rent. Our clients are screened each time they come to us for help to determine the need and how we can best work with them.

In the past year and a half the request for services has increased dramatically. In the 2009 year, we served 3,788 families. In these families, there were 9,413 people.

As we go about our daily lives to church, school and work, we may not realize that there is this much need right here in our own backyards, but go just a little way off of your path and you might see a client of ours whose son fell through the floor of their home because the roof had leaked for so long that the floor was rotten or the single mother working two jobs who still cannot make ends meet or the elderly man with an income of less than eight hundred dollars a month.

We at CCC appreciate the ongoing support of Clemson United Methodist Church and hope we can continue to work together to serve as we help our neighbors to help themselves.
