About Cub Scout Pack 161:
Clemson United Methodist Church has chartered Cub Scout Pack 161 for the past 57 years. Cub Scout Pack 161 aims to carryout the vision of Lord Baden-Powell...that scouting is a game with a purpose...by planning activities that allow our scouts to develop their character, practice leadership, earn awards, provide service to the community and have fun outdoors. In recent years, Cub Scout Pack 161 has maintained approximately 30 registered scouts and 12 registered adults. The scouts are divided into (5) dens by age.
This past year, Pack 161's activities included:
- Bicycle Rodeo (with Pendleton's pack, which emphasizes bicycle safety)
- Indoor rock climbing
- Learning about South Carolina wildlife from a Dept. Natural Resources biologist and casting animal tracks using plaster-of-paris at the DNR
- Exploring Stumphouse Tunnel with the Southeast Regional bat expert and counting bats
- Fall Family Campout
- Making a parade float and participating in the Clemson Christmas Parade
- Collecting canned goods for Clemson Community Care during the annual Scouting-for-Food drive
- Blue & Gold Banquet
- Planting a tree at CUMC commemorating the 100th anniversary of Scouting in America
- Pinewood Derby
- Learning about rocks and minerals at Diamond Hill in Abbeville
- Spring Family Campout on Lake Hartwell
- Raingutter Regatta
- Participation in Cub Scout Day Camp at Oconee County High Falls Park
In addition to the pack activities, each of the (5) dens meet to work toward their requirements for their rank. Scouts are awarded their rank after completing their specific requirements. Scouts can also earn belt loops and pins for completing requirements in the Cub Scout Academics and Sports program. For example, this year, many of our scouts earned their Wildlife Conservation belt loop and pin as well as the Ultimate Frisbee belt loop and pin.
