CUMC Outreach – 2020 Shoebox Ministry Kickoff! Please help us achieve our goal of at least 220 Christmas Shoeboxes! Each year CUMC has stepped-up to help us exceed our goal. We look forward to your support and hope that this will be a bright spot for all as we look forward to sharing our gifts with those in need!
The Shoebox Ministry is a great opportunity for all CUMC members and families to personally get involved with a fun project that helps children in need during the holidays. Again, this year at CUMC, we will be sending shoeboxes from our congregation to the Spirit Lake Ministry Center. The Spirit Lake Ministry delivers shoeboxes to children in need on 7 reservations in the Dakotas and Minnesota. Their primary target for shoebox distribution is children in foster care on the reservations and children in households recommended by social services and clergy on the reservations. These shoeboxes are the only gift that most of these children receive during the holidays.
Due to COVID- restrictions, things will be a little bit different this year, but we’re still hoping to fill the bus & to make Christmas a bit brighter for a lot of children. However, we want to conduct the project in a way that we minimize people involvement, handling & need to re-check boxes.
Want to help? Here’s how you can get involved: - Self-packing option! Due to health restrictions, you are welcome to shop until you drop with items that will fit in a shoebox. We suggest that you include: school supplies, small toys & educational items, hat & gloves/mittens, coloring book/notebook, candy, etc. (Please do not include soap or liquids.) No need to wrap a box this year - just return purchased items in a plastic bag to CUMC (entry area for Sunday services or CUMC main office between 9am-noon (M-F). We will then pack all items in colorful paper within a plastic shoe box. We want to ship plastic boxes that can be wiped/disinfected and then reused by the family. Please include $7 to help cover CUMC shipping of your box to North Dakota. (Money can be placed inside your bag or can be dropped off at the church office. Checks should be made out to CUMC.) - Donate! Want to participate, but don’t want to shop? No problem! Please include a donation for $30 (marked for Christmas Shoebox) for each box & this will include the shipping cost. Checks should be made out to CUMC. If donating online, just mark SHOEBOX in the other category. If you want to donate in honor or memory of someone, just let us know! We’ll be happy to provide you with a special card that you can use to inform the person being honored! - Virtual shopping to Fill Shoe Boxes! Want to participate, but don’t want to leave home? No problem since you can still enjoy the joy of seeing what can fit in a shoebox by shopping online! We’ve created an Amazon Wish List and all items will be sent directly to CUMC to help fill boxes. Deadline: All donations & items for the shoe box project should be delivered to CUMC no later than Friday, Nov. 20th . We will plan to finalize the boxes and ship them to North Dakota the following week!
